Executive Order 9066 In 1942 President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the Executive Order 9066. This placed over 110,000 japanese immigrants into isolated areas in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming.(Ikeda)
After When World War II ended, the camps perished along with it. They were let back into their homes, farms, and shops. While they were happy to return home, most of them found their homes damaged or looted. Forty years later in 1982, a congressman stated that the events happened due to poor leadership and racism. In 1988, The Civil Liberties Act of 1988 gave a payment to the remaining survivors of $20,000 along with an apology from the president.(Ikeda)
