Propaganda
Propaganda is when a certain group of people use a little comic or picture to influence the populace's point of view. Most of the time, The Americans used the technique "Name Calling" in propaganda to get the people to start disposing and hating the Japanese americans. Many other countries used this technique to do the same thing. Such as when Germany used propaganda to get its citizens to despise jews. Most of the worlds wars or discrimination uses propaganda
This piece of propaganda, drawn by Jack Campbell, represents a Japanese leader that is caught in what he calls a “Jap Trap.” This piece of propaganda uses the name-calling method by calling the Japanese the Japs. This harsh and convincing piece of propaganda depicts him as a rat with vampire teeth. He has the hat of the Japanese Army above his head that shows America’s hatred of Japanese citizens during World War II.The trap is labeled material conservation which means that they would be saving money and resources by getting rid of the Japs. All of these factors in the ad help influence a growing hatred for the Japs after bombing Pearl Harbor. In a way, this propaganda convinced the citizens that what they were doing was Ok, because of all of the horrible things the Japanese had done to us. (Campbell)
The U.S. tries to provoke their own male citizens into a hatred for the Japanese by making a stereotypical representation of their opponent, a.k.a “Jap Boy”, “Tokyo Kid” and many other memorable figures. Again, this type of propaganda represents the name-calling category of propaganda for the names they used for the Japanese as described earlier. (This is the enemy)
This piece of propaganda is trying to categorize the japanese as animals. They used the "name calling" technique to create a picture in citizen’s minds that it is okay to force japanese americans to isolated camps because they are animals. It also creates a hostile environment between the japanese and the americans, making the americans want the japanese gone. It created a stereotype that the Japanese are bad drivers because of their small eyes. (Seuss)
